Title 1 District Initiative

Purpose in a Backpack is our local United States initiative, providing students in underserved and under resourced communities, K-6th grade, Title 1 district schools with an opportunity to continue to engage in reading fundamentals and exciting learning experiences focused on Reading Literacy, Science, Technology, Arts, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.)
Purpose in a Backpack provides each child with a backpack filled with books on their grade level and S.T.E.A.M. kit for learning through their school break.

The Goal:

The goal of the backpack initiative is to provide underserved and under resourced K-6th grade Title 1 district schools with an opportunity to continue to engage in fun, and exciting learning experiences focused on Reading Literacy, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.)

What is the Initiative?

We accomplish this initiative by providing students in underserved and under resourced communities with backpacks filled with books for reading in addition to S.T.E.A.M. supportive activities that will engage the child and keep them learning through their school break. Hosting a Read Around the Isle Author to read outloud the power of reading.

Sponsorship/Grant Opportunities:

  1. Bring PIB to your office, church or event for a team building exercise donating and assembling backpacks
  2. Donate books via “My Classroom” Scholastic
  3. Financial donation
  4. Read Around the Isle Author
